Second Saturdays Reading Series (June)

Featuring Meropi Peponides, Beto O’Byrne, and Tyler Thomas
Private home on the Upper East Side, Manhattan
RSVP Jee at jkoh@singaporeunbound.org for directions

This month we welcome Meropi Peponides, Beto O’Byrne, and Tyler Thomas from multi-ethnic producing collective Radical Evolution, who believe, like us, that food is history, culture, communities, and storytelling. They will present their book Recipes from the (R)evolution, a collection of food recipes, performance exercises and other invitations all designed to gather people together amidst a pandemic and a nation in social transformation.

Our gathering begins with their presentation, followed by a potluck and then an open-mic related to food.

Meropi Peponides is a theater maker, dramaturg, podcast producer, writer, and co-founder of Radical Evolution. Her work explores cross-cultural affinity and seeks to disrupt cultural hierarchies by drawing inspiration from and lifting up BIPOC and nonwestern traditions. Recipes for the (R)Evolution is her first book. Other recent (theatrical) work: Songs About Trains, The Corrido of the San Patricios and the podcast Little Known Legends (coming soon).

Beto O’Byrne co-founded Radical Evolution, a multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary producing collective based in Brooklyn, NY. He is the author of 20 plays, screenplays, and original TV pilots, the creator of the World of Kir fantasy series, a professional musician, and teaches writing and theatre classes and workshops nationwide. www.betoobyrne.com

Tyler Thomas is a New York-based theater director and Susan Stroman Directing Award recipient. Most recently, she has developed and directed new work at the Vineyard Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Rattlestick Playwrights, Geva Theatre, Northern Stage, The Flea, and the New Ohio Theatre. She is also the Associate Artistic Director of One Nation/One Project, a national arts and wellness initiative in partnership with the National League of Cities.
