In Singapore Literature Prize winner Jee Leong Koh's new book To the Tune, Jee asks Du Fu how poetry can take to the barricades, discovering bracing answers from ordinary citizens, media workers, political organizers, and protest songwriters. The extraordinary Noorlinah Mohamed joins Jee in reading from the book, to the accompaniment of new songs based on the book, composed and sung by the wonder duo Neo Swee Lin and Lim Kay Siu (the NeoKELELims).
Jee Leong Koh is the author of Steep Tea (Carcanet), named a Best Book of the Year by UK's Financial Times and a Finalist by Lambda Literary in the USA. His hybrid work of fiction, Snow at 5 PM: Translations of an insignificant Japanese poet, won the Singapore Literature Prize in English fiction. Originally from Singapore, Koh lives in New York City, where he heads the literary non-profit Singapore Unbound. He is also the Poetry Editor of The Evergreen Review.
Noorlinah Mohamed wears many hats—performer, educator, producer, and artistic director. From developing major events like the Singapore International Festival of Arts and Festival of Women: N.O.W., to bringing arts education into schools, she finds fulfillment in collaborative art-making and connecting people through shared thoughts, ideas, and causes.
The NeoKELELims are long-time married actors, Neo Swee Lin & Lim Kay Siu. They sing & write songs together to advocate for the causes they care about. Their original songs, which include “She/Swee's Song,” “Together” and “Somedays,” can be found on all streaming sites. Bandcamp is preferred. www.neokelelims.com.
